Teaching English
Educate Ethiopia and the Catholic Church of Ethiopia http://adigratcatholicchurch.org/  is looking for 3 young adults (18-25 years old) to teach English to the future priests and teachers.
This is the 3rd year of the program and you can read the blog of the 3 University students that went last year http://www.webjam.com/educateethiopia

Duties:  This is not a formal classroom setting as you are helping them learn English and how it would be used in everyday life; we have found this is better done outside the classroom.  The students range in age from 18-30 and have at a minimum a high school education.  You will create a lesson plan each day as you help them get comfortable learning to speak.   This could be playing games, watching and then discussing movies, last years students will tell you what worked best, but we are always looking for new ideas.  All students speak and read English, your job is to get them to use it more freely, experiment and make it fun.  Much of the work is helping them feel more confident speaking in a small group setting.
The job will be from July 1 –August 5 2009.  You will be responsible for the costs of getting to Adigrat, Ethiopia, people will be there to meet you and make sure you get settled.  You will be living on the campus in a secure compound.  Once you are there your room and food will be paid for by the program.  You will be eating the same food that is served locally.  If you want to visit other parts of Ethiopia we suggest you do that after the program is over.  You will go on a couple excursions (Axum) while there.
This will be a life changing experience, and if you are interested in participating please forward your CV or resume to pklein@educateethiopia.com.  Candidates will have several phone interviews; we will require 3 references, one from your school, church, and friend.  Before leaving we will require a note from your doctor and proof that you have had the necessary injections for your own personal protection.
For information on the teaching English program and general conditions please visit http://www.webjam.com/educateethiopia   If you have questions just post them on the blog and last years students will respond.

Computer Support
Educate Ethiopia and the Catholic Church of Ethiopia http://adigratcatholicchurch.org/  is looking for 1 person to spend a month at their offices in Tigray helping develop and implement an internet strategy.  Once the strategy is approved that person will teach and work with several key staff members to develop Joomla or (other open source software) based web sites for the different programs they are working on.  The person should be able to work in various forms of multi-media and will have to adapt to old equipment, power outages, language issues and a harsh dusty environment.
Ethiopia is behind in the development of it’s internet, you will experience slow response and education will have to be completed on local equipment where ever possible.
The assignment can be performed any time.  You will be responsible for the costs of getting to Adigrat, Ethiopia, people will be there to meet you and make sure you get settled.  We would expect you to bring your own PC and software.  You will be living on the campus in a secure compound.  Once you are there your room and food will be paid for by the program.  You will be eating the same food that is served locally and staying on a University campus in very simple quarters.  If you want to visit other parts of Ethiopia we suggest you do that after the program is over.  You will go on a couple excursions (AxUm) while there.
This will be a life changing experience, and if you are interested in participating please forward your CV or resume to pklein@educateethiopia.com.  Candidates will have several phone interviews; you will need to send links to some of the web work you have been involved in.  We will require 3 references, one from your work or school, church and friend.  Before leaving we will require a note from your doctor and proof that you have had the necessary injections for your own personal protection.
If you have questions please contact pklein@educateethiopia.com
