SCHOOL NAME: St. Gabriel Primary School Magauma DISTRICT: Irob YEAR OF ESTABLISHMENT: 1983 G.C. BENEFICIARIES: 3700 Magauma is found to the East of Alitena at the foothills of high mountains. The inhabitants are very poor though they are hard working. They send their children to school because they know that the only means to improve their living condition is through educating their children. The school of the Church was established where there were no schools in the area and have contributed a lot to the community by giving formal education according to the curriculum and policy of Education of the country. Moral education is also given at all grades in all parish schools with the vision: "to establish the kingdom of God through promoting integral human development, focusing on the development of person in general body-soul." The community appreciates the way the school educate the young academic subjects above all its commitment and follow up to foster the spiritual and moral values of Catholic church. The basic ideas of Christian ethics are taught and reflected in the day-to-day activities of the school children. The school has been teaching and serving to promote peace, justice and love, in the community. The School started in the year 1983 with 1 - 4 grade level (First Cycle). After completing grade 4 the students go to Alitena to continue their schooling. During the time when national exam was given in grade six, a female student of grade six from Magauma was to cross the river called Zegarut, unfortunately she couldn't cross the river and missed the national exam. The School is now up graded to 1-6, but still students have to walk on foot 1.5 - 2.0 hours every morning from Megauma to Alitena to continue their education of grade 7 and 8 and secondary education. Despite the fact that there is no potable water in the School, the vision of Magauma people is to see their School up graded to 1-8 levels so that the students could have ample time to prepare themselves for the National exam at grade 8.
