Lideta is located in Alitena where the area is repeatedly affected by recurrent drought and unexpected war between Eritrea and Ethiopia created many social and economic problems. Education is taken by the Catholic Church as an essential social service to over come the various challenges of development the people face. (Nativity of Mary) Secondary School was established in 1845 by St Justin de Jacobis- the missionary who introduced the Catholic faith in northern Ethiopia and has been rendering modern education to residents of Irob district and from other parts of Ethiopia and Eritrea during those times. In 1850, Dej.Wubie native of northern Gonder and then governor of Tigray legally recognized it.

Lideta School has had many interruptions related to religious persecution in its long history. However, it continued to flourish and, eventually, became one of the oldest academic centers in the empire and it proved modern education for students form different parts of the country. It is documented that in 1914 there were 500 students in the School.

Moral education is also given in Lideta school with the vision: "to establish the kingdom of God through promoting integral human development, focusing on the development of person in general body-soul."

The community appreciates the way the school educates the young with academic subjects and above all its commitment and follow up to foster the spiritual and moral values of Catholic Church. The basic ideas of Christian ethics are taught and reflected in the day-to-day activities of the school children. The school has been teaching and serving to promote peace, justice and love, in the community.

At present the School is rendering service especially to students from the poor families to complete their Secondary School Education. Like the GovernmentSchool, it is rendering education through Information Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching grades 9 and 10.

According to the new policy of training and education degree graduates are employed with an attractive salary and housing allowance.
