It is a small village in Saessie Tsaeda Emba district located at Eastern zone of Tigray. The area is mountainous, and the land for farming is small in size and less productive. The people earn their living through farming, raising cattle and daily laboring.
Traditionally the Catholic Church has been rendering educational service in the diocese. Where there is a Church there is a school for basic education. The dwellers of Mirgida had the chance of sending their children to learn Catechism and basic education.
Because of the government could not open a school in the area the parish of Adigrat has been rendering a non-formal program (NFP) for the last 4 years.
NFP is a program for Out of School children and adults, Where Children learn and at the same time help their parents in harvesting, farming and looking after sheep, cattle etc. Adults are taught to read and write in order to reduce illiteracy rate. Besides awareness of HIV/AIDS is given in order to reduce death rate.
The nearest formal primary school is Mariam Tsion primary school.
The Tigray Regional Education Bureau is urging the Adigrat Diocese Catholic Secretariat (ADCS) to up grade the NFP to formal schools. This was previously planned by the ADCS but could not be implemented due to budget constraints.
