My name is Anna Benson, and I am currently a junior in high school in Cairo, Egypt. My interest in Educate Ethiopia began last year. I looked at their website and knew that sponsoring a school, even the smallest and least expensive one, was something I wanted to do. Over the summer, I sold various Egyptian items like scarves, shawls, beaded handbags, blouses, sheesha pipes, crystal glassware, and an Egyptian Cook Book to family and friends. I earned $1900, which was enough to sponsor the school in Feredashum.
I am currently trying to sponsor a second school with help from school clubs and classmates. The National Honor Society sponsored a Dodgeball Tournament for my high school and allocated the funds towards Educate Ethiopia. I am currently planning a Mr. Cairo American College Pageant (Cairo American College is my high school). I hope that this, along with cookbook sales, and donations will be enough money to sponsor another school.
What I am doing is something anyone, anywhere can do. It is easy to forget that a little time and effort can go a long way in bettering someone else’s life. I encourage anyone who is interested in helping to get involved.
